Because of the weather, we have delayed our
collection a week to Sunday, February 14th. This event, which coincides with the
Super Bowl, started in South Carolina in 1990. We will collect donations to help
fight hunger locally. The Souper Bowl of Caring helps us not lose sight of all
the needy people in the community while we are distracted by the hoopla of the
Super Bowl. Last year, nearly 14,000 churches and other organizations raised
$13.4 million. The suggested donation for Souper Bowl of Caring is a dollar to
buy someone a bowl of soup, but any size contribution is welcome. First English
raised $938.10 last year, including a match from Thrivent. The funds went to the
Central Virginia Food Bank. First English youth will be on hand on February 14th
with soup pots to collect your donations. First English has been very generous
in years past; let’s do it again this year!
