Congregational Life
Reaching to members and friends of First English. Organized ministry programs are being developed to assist persons in times of need as well as to serve homebound members of the congregation. Fellowship activities are also planned to allow members opportunity to get to know one another better through fun activities.
Youth Ministry
Youth ministries are youth and adults working together so that youth might grow and participate in thier baptismal relationships with their Lord, themselves, and the world through the means of grace and the congregations ministries of proclamation, teaching, worship, community, witness, and service.
First English Lutheran Church's Youth Group is a mixture of Middle and High School Youth who live in the city and surrounding counties and go to different schools, yet share the one thing that unites them together, the love of God in Christ Jesus. Youth come together by holding regular meetings, participating in service projects, holding fund raisers, participating in Virginia Synod youth events such as Lost and Found, Winter Celebration, and Karios, and gathering for other fun activities. Throughout the year, youth serve the congregation as acolytes (candle lighters and crucifers) and as role models for younger children of the congregation.
Women of the ELCA
Purpose: As a community of women, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ,
and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one
another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church,
the society, and the world.
From Fall through Spring women gather as two groups, one Tuesday morning and one Friday evening each month.
No regular meetings are held during the summer months.
Music Ministry
Adult choir, Youth choir, and hand bells provide leadership to worship services. Linus Ellis, Music Director, chooses music for hymns, preludes and postludes that highlight the weeks message.
Choir rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings. If you would like to share God's gifts through music come to a Wednesday evening rehearsal and see what fun it can be. There is a choir for everyone! Contact Linus Ellis if you have questions.
Stewardship
Guides members of the congregation towards prayerful consideration of sharing their time, talents, and financial
resources towards furthering God's purpose through the church and in the world.
