First English has four
choirs: the Senior Choir, the Youth Choir, the Funeral
Choir, and the Handbell Choir. The Choir year is divided into three seasons: the
Fall season — from Rally Sunday in September through the Christmas Season, the
Spring season — from Epiphany through Trinity Sunday, and the Summer season —
from the Sunday after Trinity through the Sunday before Rally Sunday. All choirs
are open to anyone who would like to join. Auditions are not necessary to become
a member, but a session for voice placement of new members for the Senior Choir
may be held at the discretion of the director. Each choir has officers
responsible, at the direction of the Associate in Ministry, for the operation of
the choirs. Further details about the choirs are below.

The Senior Choir sings for the 10:30 Sunday Eucharist all seasons and for Ash
Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Christmas Eve. Additional special
services may be announced before the beginning of each season. Rehearsals are
normally held on Wednesday Evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm and before each
service for which the choir sings. Members of the Senior Choir are confirmation
age and beyond. Singers are not required to sing with the choir at every
service, but need to indicate as far in advance as possible when they will be
participating to allow for music planning. To participate in the choir at a
service, singers must have been present for one Wednesday rehearsal the
preceding two weeks. For more information, contact the
Associate in Ministry, Linus Ellis.
Youth Choir
The Youth Choir generally sings every four to six weeks during the Fall and
Spring seasons, at the Easter 10:30 service, and at the 5:00 pm Family service
on Christmas Eve. The Youth Choir does not meet during the Summer season.
Rehearsals are normally held on Wednesdays at 6:45 pm. Members of the Youth
Choir should be able to read English, but have not yet been confirmed. For more
information, contact the
Associate in Ministry, Linus Ellis.
Funeral Choir
The Funeral choir sings for all funerals at First English. Membership is open to
anyone who is interested and available. Members of the Funeral Choir do not need
to be members of other First English choirs. Rehearsals are generally held one
hour before the Funeral service. For more information, contact the
Associate in Ministry, Linus Ellis.
Handbell Choir
The Handbell Choir generally plays at major celebrations as well as every four
to six weeks during the Fall and Spring seasons. The Handbell Choir may or may
not meet during the Summer season. Rehearsals are normally held on Wednesdays at
5:30 pm. Members of the Handbell Choir normally are able to read music. The
Handbell choir is open to all ages. For more information, contact the
